Gun cleaning

Has anyone used WIPE-OUT gun cleaning spray foam?
It claims no need to brush.
Just found the same post in the reloading form

If you do a search on Wipe Out, you should find a lot of info. This was debated a while back, the product got very good reviews from everyone who tried it. - Dan

Whales, I just ruined a good rifle stock with Wipe-Out seeping out of the barrel when I let it sit overnight as recommend for heaving first cleaning jobs. The stuff eats the finish off of Ruger rifles big time. Plus there are some other warnings with the product that it also eats brass and aluminum.......both metals are used in some internal parts on some rifles.

And it feels funny on your skin if you get it on you. The product says "all natural ingredients" but there are lots of acids and deadly things that are "natural" so I'm not much impressed with this meaningless claim.

Frankly, I think I'm going to pitch my can of it in the trash and go back to the old tried and true methods.

Oh, will Wipe Out clean your barrel? Yes. It will do that. My problem with it is what else does it do and none of us can tell you about long term effects on barrels and so forth.

One other thing, the can sells for about $11 or $12 bucks by the time you pay shipping. It says this can will clean 100 barrels. I don't belive that for a minute. I think a guy would be lucky to clean 25 or 30 really dirty rifle barrels with it. So, it's not real cheap product and I'm just too nervous about it on my guns to mess with it anymore. You decide, my friend. [Smile]

I'd say try a different technique of applying it if you're having those problems.

I found that applying it from the muzzle didn't work at all for me. If I plugged the chamber tightly, there was no room for air to escape so the foam didn't go down the barrel. If I plugged the chamber loosely, it would come out into the action or (worse) through the side vent holes on my Mexican Mauser.

Now I stick a bore guide tightly in the chamber and apply through that. Excess comes out the muzzle onto an old newspaper.

If you don't want it on your skin, wear gloves -- something we all should do anyway when cleaning guns but that I admit is a pain.
