papapaulI measured two. One was 0.506" the other was 0.497" These were sights I had in a drawer. I had one M! carbine shot very high. We had to bend the barrel to get it on target.

LesBrooksWe had lots of these M1 carbines in the mid 60's to alter by gas welding an amount between 1/16 to 1/8 in. to the top of the front sight. Take it to the range and check for the correct amount by shooting it in at the distance you want to zero. File to get to the correct amount for your rifle. These rifles were made to shoot in at 200 yds plus, most wanted to zero at 100 yds. DCM days were a good time in our shop.

papapaulThe ones I measured were of recent manufacture, purchased from Numerich Arms. Somebody must have figured out that it is easier to file them down, than build them up.
