reelmanRe-Barrel M70
I'm in the beginning stages of re-barreling a Pre-64 M70. Does anybody have any recomendations of a gunsmith to do the job, or a barrel company. This would be a purelly hunting gun so extreme accuracy is not required. Preferably I would like to put a tapered octogon stainless barrel on it in 35 Whelan.

Rob1SGThere are alot of barrel makers out there who could do a good job.Let us know how much your willing to spend.I had mine done in Chrome-moly with an action job for $320 but for around $500 you could get a match barrel in Stainless

John Ricks www.pac-nor.com.Remember, any carving on the barrel like fluting or tapered octagon equates to more $$$$$$$$.
There be a lot of milling in making a tapered octagon barrel, if the chap doing it is not a machining wizard you will wind up with a scattergun.
