Hi,
I'm off muzzle brakes and am interested in ways to reduce recoil, specifically in a 300wby I want to have built and a 338 I have. I don't mind lugging around a rifle with a some weight to it, but don't want to get excessive, either.

What kind of synthetic stocks and stock designs are best for recoil. I've heard Weatherby stocks handle hard kicking rifles very well. I've got two 270wby's, one has an HS stock and the other has a straight comb mcmillan. The HS stocked one kicks less and feels better. Has anybody tried an HS stock with a recoil reducer in it?

I dont really notice recoil when hunting, but I definately notice it at the range. If this is true for you, the easiest mehtod to reduce recoil when you are at the range is to choose a heavy shooting rest like the one shown in the link below. This effectivley adds up to 100 pounds to the guns weight and really drops recoil.

Limbsaver Pad.
I rechambered a guy's 458 WM to 458 Lott and put on a Limbsaver.
He said It was a night and day difference and that the gun kicked less in a Lott than it did in 458 WM.

This is by far the very best justification for those super expensive premium bullets. They let you load a lighter bullet, with substantially less recoil. Don't push them to the max velocity and a mean gun may become pleasent to shoot.

I've got amercury tube in the stock of my .458 and it seems to help quite a bit. Adds a pound though.
