ranb40Installing a Pac Nor barrel
I am considering rebarreling my Savage 110 rifle to 375-06. I was reading the section on pre-fit barrels at
http://www.pac-nor.com/prefit/ and wondered exactly what they mean by "The prefit barrel comes to you with a short thread shank to be set back for proper head space;" What is a sort thread shank?
I have rebarreled a Savage rifle using an Adams and Bennett barrel and had no problems. Will a Pac Nor barrel require much work to install or is it drop-in? Thanks.

DutchI would suggest you make a phone call. My barrel was not short chambered or short threaded, just ready to screw onto the action. Just make sure you tell them which action diameter you have. HTH, Dutch.

remboOn a Savage 110 you wouldn't need a lathe,....or even a file. The headspace is set by positioning the barrel properly, with a headspace gauge, and torquing the locknut..........probably the easiest bolt action on which to replace the barrel.
Savages aside, th normal prefit barrels are done a little different. You need to cut the shoulder back until the headspace is correct. A lathe is necessary. For someone that is set up to fit barrels this eliminates reamer rentals or reamer buying and the time assocaited with cutting the chamber. These barrels are a great idea, IMHO.
