Gentry Muzze; Brakes
Has anyone had a Gentry Brake installed He advertizes it as the "Quiet Muzzel Brake do to the pitch of the ports directed to the front at better than 30 degree.

IMHO there's no such thing as a quiet muzzle brake. If the exhaust ports are pitched forward at 30 degees it will only get rid of (at most) half of the exhaust jet recoil.

Gentry usually makes quality products, though, so fit, finish, metallurgy should be good.

The Gentry brake is effective. I shot a 7 STW with a Gentry brake and it did reduce recoil very well. We were shooting out on the prairie.

Quieter?? Compared to shooting a 3" .44 mag pistol in a phone booth, I guess you could claim it is quieter. I tried a shot without ear muffs just to see how bad it was and my ears rang for hours.

I admit to hating brakes, but don't let any of the brake manufacturers kid you, you will need ear protection to hunt with them or you will have ringing ears.

That said, Gentry's brake is high quality like all of his products. If you need a brake I think his is as good as any others.

Old Timer,

I have installed a number of these, and like them very much.

But, as my friend Don said, I am not too sure how "quiet" they are. They certainly louder than a rifle without a muzzle brake.

Muzzle brakes have never bothered me during hunting and my ears don't ring...They do off the bench, but I wear hearing protection there.....

But, just shooting regular guns got my hearing a long time ago...I doubt the muzzle brakes are as guilty as charged..muzzle blast will make all of you deaf with or without a break, you just don't know it yet.....Hunting ruins hearing and you can't hunt effecttively and were hearing protection..so roll the dice, win loose or draw.

Last year, Walter was having some trouble shooting some francolines.

Roy thought he would help him, by offering him the shootign sticks to rest his shotgun on.

Well, Walter had his own idea of getting back at Roy. As soon as Roy put the shooting sticks up, Walter blasted 5 shells as quick as he could through his semi-auto shotgun!

Roy was screaming "F*%$#@! My ears! You IDIOT!"

We were all laughing so much, as we got back into the truck.

As we started talking again in the truck, I purposely lowered my voice, so Roy had difficulty hearing me!

Roy:"I can't hear you! That iDIOT blasted my bloody ears! All I can hear now is ringing in my ears!"

I am afriad this only lasted for a few minutes, as he discovered my trick.
