1965 Winchester 270 safety

Safety on my 1965 Winchester 270 is really hard to get to safety position
Any ideas?

Sure; your cocking piece and or the safety and or the sear, is worn which allows some forward movement in the system, making it hard to engage the safety. Easy to fix.

How do I fix it at home?
Or gunsmith would be better option?
Not about money though, it's fun to do things plus gunsmiths sometimes are backed up for months

I outlined doing it with a mill here, about the 30th post down. Many people do it with files and Dremel tools. A lot less precise, but it's exactly the same principal.
