Vertically misaligned sight bases
Hi everyone,

I've got a rifle that will not vertically align standard sight bases. That is to say, the front base is slightly high or the rear base is slightly low. The rifle isn't your standard RemChester, so buying other bases seems to be a long shot. It looks like my choices are either custom rings/bases (ouch!) or some type of shim to raise the rear base slightly. Can anyone offer any helpful suggestions on how to deal with this problem, or the best parts/materials etc.?

Thanks

go to the Brownells web site, type in scope shims and buy the pack with the right hole spacing and shim the rear base until it is level with the front base.
You can also use Burris Signature rings with the inserts to accomplish the same.

From the files of "maybe the original gunsmith wasn't an idiot" ...

A couple of days ago, it finally hit me that the gunsmith who drilled and tapped the receiver might have planned on using medium rings in back and low rings in front. One Midway order and three days later, a set of low rings arrives. I install the low ring on the front, and everything appears to be aligned perfectly.

I guess you learn something new every day.
