460wbyBRNO 602 from 375 H&H to 375 RUM??
Hello.
I consider to sell my 460 Wby. to finace a new project. I'm not sure if im able to say goodbye to that rifle yet, but I'm thinking of it though.
To be absolutely honest, I dont use it as much as I used to any more. I think I've got my punishment by now?? And it dont look like I'm going to Africa for quite some time either.
I'm thinking of getting a original BRNO 602, in cal.375 H&H and rechamber it to 375 RUM.
Is that a very simple task?? As I see it, it looks like it's nothing else that should have to be changed with the rifle. Exept maybe bedding the stock and tune the feeding.(of course maybe to put a straight stock on it, with a good recoilpad on!)
Have the BRNO enough steel in the chamber area to be safe with the 375 RUM?? Have I forgotten anything else???

<Don Martin29>Aside from the logical result of rechambering a good rifle into another cartridge which in your case will be that then you will own one rifle that's worth less than it was when you started instead of two rifles you have to consider "what is it good for"?
A friend who has now been to Africa twice is selling his .375 Rum and .300 Weatherby and keeping the M-70 Classic in .375 H&H and the .300 Win Mag. He has larger calibers also.
He feels that in the .375 bore that the H&H shoots the bullet fast enough for African situations.
This is just the opinion of one person and rifle calibers are fun so if your amused by it the project then go ahead but the result will not be a gain for you money wise.
I know the RUM is a better design but it's really too big for it's bore. Better to buy a rifle chambered for the RUM already if you want to save money.
460wby,
It will work fine. I turned one into a 378 Weatherby doing just as you describe, and the factory barrel shoots sub MOA, 300 grain Sierra Game Kings at 2860 fps.
I also have a CZ 550 action getting a Winchester 375 H&H barrel off a Super Express rechambered to 375 RUM. It is swell. Had I had another complete rifle in CZ 550 375 H&H then I would have used that. I already have a Pre-64 M-70 and and M-70 Classic stainless in 375 H&H, so I needed to put those big CZ actions to proper use. They are swell.
The gun nut thing certainly is not about investments and making money. Tee hee.

Even if dealing in Holland and Holland Royals, one must find the greater fool than thou to unload them.

Mike375Arild,
The BRNO would be ideal for the conversion.
I don't have a 375 Ultra
yet ![[Big Grin]](images/icons/grin.gif)
but I think the 375 Ultra is just about the percet caliber for teh gun nut when it comes to bang for the buck, ballistics, recoil etc.
Recoil with full loads is going to be at all you would ever want before muzzle brakes start to come into play. Brass is cheap and unlike the 416 caliber, you have all those Speer, Hornady, Sierra and Nosler bullets to shoot with.
In addition, with a powders like Varget or 3031, it would load back very nicely to 375 H&H ballistics and with compariable powder weights and so similar recoil and blast.
Although Saeed has never said this, I think one reason he likes the 375/404s is because of greater loading flexibility than is offered by the 375 H&H, especially with those long 300 Barnes X or Failsafe bullets.

NitromanI have a ZKK-602 and had it rechambered to .375 Weatherby. This was before the Weatherby was going to be introduced, I thought I would have something no-one else would...oh well. I sure like mine and I can tell you you can feel the extra 150 fps at your shoulder. It isn't bad though.
I like the Brno/cz rifles and I like the .375 H&H I personally would leave it.

460wbyThanks guys.
I'm totally aware of how good the 375 H&H is, but I'm not a "30-06 and 375 H&H" -kind of guy.
It would be to boring for me to reload for such common thing.
Maybe when I get old!

460wbyaHunter.
I already have a 416 Taylor, so I dont need a Rigby. At least not for Norwegian -moose. By the way, I love that rifle.

I also have a 338 RUM buildt for me these days, so I cant say I really need the 375.
But IF I sell the 460 Wby, I simply have to replace it with something, and a 375 H&H is to boring for me. Maybe I'll just buy it, and put it away for a while though.
In the future I think I'll make myself a 458" 2" American. But for that one I'll manage with a M98 action, and I really dont need that long fine BRNO action for that stubby cartridge. My dream is to manage to get some subsonic loads with it.
Why does everybody think that 375 RUM is such a bad choice????

460wby,
Not everybody thinks it is a lousy cartridge. Some just like to whine if they have nothing good to say, often with little first hand experience to back it up. Often just wanting some attention for their ego's. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. "Well grease my ego, or kiss my grits!" is what it amounts to.
The 375 H&H is a sacred cow of sorts. It will do just fine. The squeaky wheels do not want to obsolete their 375 H&H's in their own mind, or do not dare to consort with a new mistress, the 375 RUM.
There are pro's & con's to every view. Look into your heart and answer the question for yourself: Do I dare?
If you can handle it, go for it or quit squeaking.
Enough of my squeaking for now.

If everybody had nothing else but a 375 H&H, and a 30-06 this forum would be a very sad story!!
