Soldered On Scope Bases
I was recently looking over as many pages with custom rifles as possible. I came across a few rifles that had Talley type bases soldered or welded to the action so they looked like double square bridge Mausers. Is this a commen thing? I kind of liked the look, and they has no visible screw holes for mounting so they must have been filled.

What is your opinion on this option?

I would love to have custom bases made and fit to my rifles, it is a great option in my opinion, but not a cheap one.

Here are some pics of custom Talley bases I had made for M98 .404 J project......................I asked to have them sodlered on but my smith said it was not needed and that screwed down with loctite etc. was more than sufficient.

333,

If I could just throw this out there:

As much as a custom bases can cost, why not have your 'smith TIG them on and get the action re-heat treated? I believe that very nice 1935 Chilean we've all drooled over received this treatment and the results were excellent.

This is just a thought though.

The Reno guns!

I can hardly say the name without passing out! If that is what happened with those rifles it was perfection! I cannot even believe how nice they are.

Does anyone have Duane Wiebe's e-mail address. I have his phone, but I find myself without a phone and on my mobile CPU a lot. I was hoping to chat with him again about doing my rifle.
