James cuts his stocks from the blank. I have some 35mm of the progression.

I didn't take it personaly, but I have some other custom rifles with slotted screw and depending on the season they will line up differently, which drives me nuts.So I went with the lesser of two evils.

For those who have never heard of James Tucker, you can read about him in Steven Dodd Hughes book entitled Custom Rifles in Black and White.

he was out on his own for quite some time, and then I believe he went to work as head stockmaker for one of the London Firms that moved to Los Angeles of all places. Now I believe that he is out on his own again.

He is known to make purely classic stocks with simplicity, grace, and beauty. And it surely shows in the photos. that stock is exquisite!!!!

Jim lived in California and was in his own shop there for some time. He then moved to the Northeast, I believe it was Vermont. It did not work so well moving there so he took a job as the head stockmaker/shop foreman for Rigby in Los Angeles. After a few years he migrated north to Oregon. He is a top of the line stockmaker and a hell of a nice guy. He also has a try gun and does stockfitting for folks. He usually has his try gun at the guild show and is quite busy with it.

This is exquisite, WORLDHUNTER1-

One of the things I admire most is that riflesmithing, done well, spans the spectrum from brute force to delicacy beyond conception.

A watchmaker would envy this work.

I particularly like the way the streaking in the walnut shows.

It's often said that man attempts to bring order to the universe. James Tucker has brought perfect order to this small part of the universe.
