2007-08 4x4 Silverado
I'm looking to buy a 2007-08 Silverado 4 x 4 . Any good or bad points I should be aware of, as in trannys or engine problems? Thanks

I've got an 06 Silverado 4x4 extended cab. I really like the truck, it's roomy, comfortable to drive and it's been dependable as all get out.

The only thing I don't like about it is I have the 6 liter engine which is thirsty as hell. Even with a new, improved air intake, dual exhaust and a programmer, I'm lucky to get 14 mpg on a GREAT day. Typically I get 10 - 12 mpg.

Which year 2007 or 2008?

2007 has a potential problem in the transfer case, which was fixed in the 2008 model year.

Its called pump rub. The fluid pump inside the case has a clip ring which would wear out, this would cause the pump to rub against the case (magnesium) which would cause a small weep hole thus draining out the fluid. It could happen at any mileage. I have a 2005 and a 2006 (60,000 and 100,000) so far and have not had any problem so far.

Here is a link showing the upgrade kit: http://www.merchant-automotive.com/transfercase.aspx and the transfer cases that have the issue.

My wife has one (extended cab 3 door, 4x4, AT, 4WD, trans case & 250 V-8 equipped) which she bought new in 1998...hers is actually the GMC Z-71, but its still just a Silverado with a different badge.

She got it with ALL the option packages, had the bed Rhino-lined and a locking hard tonneau cover installed, and has driven it every day for 13 years now.

None of the option package gimmicks has ever broken yet or needed replacement from wear.

The brakes did need replacement of the wheel cylinders and friction surfaces a year ago, and just before that it needed some tranny work.

It HAS had all the scheduled dealer maintenances done on time, right where she bought it in Oregon.

Other than that, it now has over 150,000 Miles on it and looks almost new, drives great, and is pure comfort to be in. I'd rather drive it than my M/B 4x4...it is that comfortable.

P.S.: I know her's is 10 years older than what you are looking at, but thought you might like to know the long term prognosis if they are well cared for.

My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.
