Price of painting tailgate

Some jerk flipped the switch on my fifthwheel hitch and the trailer fell on the tailgate.

Got a price of 175 just to paint the outside. The inside will have spray on liner. Will have to replace gate completeley. 175 is just paint not the gate.Does this seem a bit steep or am I just a bit tight with my money? Replacement gate is 300 used.

I'm guessing the $175 is paint and also the preparation and application. If this is a used tailgate they will probably have to fill in a ding or two.

I don't want to sound like I am "siding the with man" here, but I think the only way you could save any measureable amount of money is to get on the phone yourself and start calling some ~~junkyards~~ automotive recycling facilities and see if you can locate a gate with your original color code. Even then it is a crap shoot but if the inside gets sprayed with bedliner and possibly gets one of those gate "end protector" trim strips you might get lucky and have it look passable.

I guess 175 may not be too bad. Another shop here in town quoted 250. I guess it is higher than I thought for painting.

$175 sounds pretty darn good IMO. I know that it sounds high for a single panel, but keep in mind thers is a fair bit if labor and cost just in the mixing(or sourcing) of the paint.

In fact it will take the painter just as long to mix the paint for one panel as it would to mix enough fot the whole truck.

There is an unbelievable amount of prep that must be done before the paint is applied.

Gettin ready to go huntin. The 375 is bumpin holes at 100 yds. Still can't talk Beth into shooting it yet.
