Saved one...
remember the scene from "Silence of the Lambs" when Lector talks to Jodie Foster and they end up with the story of her trying to save one lamb? He says "you tried to save them all, but you couldn't". She replies, "yes, but I could save one...".

I hadn't had a dog in a couple years, since my lab died. I was headed out shooting, and forgot to grab a coffee mug from the kitchen. Sooo, I stop at this one-horse gas station/restaurant out in the middle of nowhere to grab a cuppa. This great-granny looking lady is talking to the gal at the counter, and she asks me if I want a dog. I told her probably not, and she said her golden lab had a litter of twelve puppies February 29th. She had five left and she was headed to the pound to get rid of them. I went and looked, and four were black labs. Cute puppies someone would take home. Number five was as big as the rest, but a gorgeous brindle male with blue eyes.

You guys know how this story ends up...I could not save them all, although I got her to agree to take them to Pet Haven, where they do find homes instead of a needle in seven days.

"Sparky" came home with me. That was my old dog's name, my son was four when I brought Sparky Sr. home. He told me a joke; "...what do you call a dog with no arms or legs?". I told him I didn't know, and he told me "Here Sparky!" and laughed himself into hysterics. I guess if you were four that joke makes sense. So Sparky it was, for eighteen years.

If this guy makes eighteen he might outlive me, but he has a nose. The boy pointed two robins in the back yard. He also went to the door to let us know he had some business outside. My wife said "NO", but then he waddled over to her on the couch and crawled up to help her read the paper.

I have a new dog!!

Wonderful story!

I've not had a puppy about for a while as my last two passed four or five years ago. I miss them. Would probably have taken one home too ... and smiled all the way!

CONGRATULATIONS

Mike

Yes,congratulations,You hace saved one,and it does make a difference ......since saving a 5 y.o. lab about 10 years ago ,we now have 4 labs that needed a new home for one reason or another ....if we had the cash, and room we'd save more, but for right now 4 labs is plenty, the latest is a 7 month old yellow lab that was to rough with his children a 2 & 4 y.o. he's a gentle giant, and keeps my 3 y.o. chocolate going most of the day ....it's funny, they are all labs and as different as you and me ...Congratulations ,Jim
