Does anyone have any experience with a canine chiropractor? That is to say a chiropractor for dogs. My vet recommended this as a possible solution to my dog's chronic hip and back problems. I have always heard from my family physician that chiropractors are quacks but I am willing to give it a try if it will help him.

I tried it with my old chessie and it helped for a while then quit being effective after a few visits. It couldn't hurt to try.

I feel there are as many quack MD's as the chiro's they point a finger at. I am a huge advocate of non-traditional and Eastern Medicine. A cervical spine chiropractor has given me my life back after Western medicine had failed me for almost 4 years after a severe injury to my head and neck.

As far as your dog goes, if your vet recommends it, I would definitly make an appointment. Do your homework and find one specializing in what you need.

My dog started with a limp in his rt.frt.leg that was evidently radiating from the shoulder several months ago. He had bumped his shoulder hard a few times on the arcadia door coming inside. After a complete blood work up and radiographs, nothing was found and I was refered to an orthopedic surgeon. Well I didn't feel comfortable making the poor dog go through a $3,000 dollar exploratory surgery when nothing was evident on the rads. I took him to a veterinary acupucturist and 6 visits later along with using prescribed herbs he is limp free. So I say give it a try. You may even consider some acupuncture for your dog along with chiropractic.

What breed is your dog? Some breeds are prone to such problems.

He is a german shepherd and I think therein may be the problem.

I have practiced Vet Medicine for 43 years. I am a fan of traditional medicine but there is a place for accupuncture. I have a collegue who is a very fine accpuncturist. I refer to her frequently. I have little experience with chiropractors. The licening board here is very specific as to what is Vet Medicine and it doesn't include chiropractors.

My vote goes in the quack collumn.

The only chiro I would trust would have to be a dog.

For you chiro believers, understand this: you heal while going to them NOT because of anything they do(or should I say despite what they are doing to you).
