Pa.FrankBoerboel
I would love to have one! The PH I hunted with this year in ZA had three of them and I found them to be beautiful yet intimidating dogs.
They were properly socialized, and I could smack them with my hat, just as the PH did, if they became unruly, even if the PH wasn't around and they accepted it and behaved. Very affectionate animals, but at 150 pounds, definitely not a lap dog.
Everything I have read about the breed is positive, good with kids (not small kids but because of their size, not temperment), family dog, loyal and protective.
Downside is, as with most large breeds, the expected lifespan is only 10 years.

Boerboel
I thought a Boerboel was one of those black catfish so common in Zimbabwe rivers and pans.

GraftonEverything you heard is true. Best dog I have had by a long way. Here is Sable when she was just a pup:
They do require some training and socialization and need a strong leader or I can see where they could be a handful but that is true with most large dogs.
Extremely smart, loyal, protective, aware...great dogs!
