My old girls

A photo of my German wirehairs, Whinnie is turning 14, and Lily will turn 18 in about six weeks. Just felt like sharing.
Both hunted this past fall. The old one has been draped across my lap the last couple of hours.

No greater hunting breed than a true German Wirehair. I’ve had several different hunting breeds. The wirehair was by far the best

My oldest Brittany turns 17 in early May. I’ve never had one that age before. He’s retired w/ a bad hip now.

The old girl turns 18 on Monday. At this rate she may outlive me!
Stairs are getting a little hard, and she needs encouragement to eat. She poops on the floor once in awhile. So what.
She will suck down cheap hot dogs and white bread on days the Iams doesn’t go it for her.
I wish I had half as much heart as she does.

Lost the old girl today at 18 and 5 months.
She was struggling more each day, keeping her going beyond this would have just been ego gratification at her expense.
It couldn’t have beeN more peaceful. I sedated her with 8mg of alprazolam, and laid on the grass with her until she fell asleep before going to the vet.
Wherever she is I hope she gets to chase pheasants.

Marty, Sorry to read that. 18 years is twice what many dogs get! Glad it was a peaceful end. 18 years of great memories I am sure.

Am very sorry to read your loss.

All day today I've been babysitting
my 15 1/2 y.o Shipperke: Midnight.

Sick, for a long time she kept lapping
at the water pan. 15 minutes or more.
Maybe a quart down. She's doing a lot
better tonight.
