I'M THINKING ABOUT A VERSITLE HUNTING DOG. I'M RESEARCHING THE DEUTSCH DRAHTHAAR. SEEMS TO BE WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR. ANYBODY WITH ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS BREED OF DOG?

I have one, best dog I have ever had. Difficult to go wrong with a DD.

I have about 7 years experience with DD. Not sure where your located in Central Kalifornia but one thing you should think about is the heat. Alot of DD cannot handle the heat too well and it also depends which lines it came from such as Deutsch Kurzhaar, Griffon, Pudelpointer and Stichelhaar.
A Deutsch Kurzhaar can do everything a DD can except cold water retrieval.
Both the DD and DK has to performed the same hunt test.

What kind of hunting will you be doing and the temperature?

Gary I bought my dog from a VDD GNA member, he's no longer breeding so he would be of no use to you. From what I've seen, anyone with the club that has dogs that have passed the tests and are certified for breeding can probably provide a good dog. My dog doesn't like the heat too much but it hasn't been much of a problem because I don't hunt when it's hot. Fur and feathers both and just a really smart dog in general. She is a bit of a burr magnet. There's certainly nothing wrong with the DKs with the cold water exception.
