JAI have known a few people that have used them with good success.
I knew one fellow who gathered cattle for ranchers that could not get their cattle out of the forests and canyons of the Sierra Nevada mountains. He used a pack of catahoulas that would not give up and would fight the meanest range bull into submission.
I knew another guy in Texas that had a pair of them that he caught a lot of wild boars with.

Bill/OregonJuan, I hope your Catahoula becomes a valued member of your pack. Beautiful dog with a very interesting history!
There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.

pennflyWe had a couple when I was growing up. We raised hogs and they would sure stop those SBs from bunching up in the chute.

daniel77Get yourself a good stout stick and say his name followed by trying to break the stick over his head for a month or so. Bout the only way to get the darn things to pay attention. I am only half kidding. They are TOUGH, but if you can get a handle on them, they can do amazing things. If you don't get them under control, you will swear they were developed by the devil himself! Mine is halfway to being handy.

Safari JamesI've hunted Catahoula's for years and have had one as a house dog for 11 years. These dogs are versatile, tough, smart, have great noses, and will hunt 'til YOU are tired.
Depending on confirmation they make great chase or catch dogs.

drewhenrytntI grew up in Louisiana where the Catahoula is the state dog. They are truly remarkable creatures. One day I would love to have one.

Larry MatherneHere is my Babette as a pup. She is a tireless hunter now. Will run the Curs in the ground. A perfect match to my Dogo "Blanca". Are as good as pets as they are as hunters.
A Bit later with Blanca as a pup.
As they are today.

BEGNOI love Catahoulas. We have had many and used them daily in our Cattle operation in Avoyelles Parish. My favorites look like Larry's with light colors and glass eyes. They are very loyal and mean to strangers if they sense a threat. A great dog.

Don_GThe only problem with catahoulas is getting them to give up the chase. Train your dog well to the horn from a pup, and maybe you won't lose it over and over again.
Also, train yourself like a marathon runner, to try to keep up.
They've got no "give up" in them, and a make outstanding hog, bear and cat dogs - but you can spend days looking for them if the quarry fails to tree or bay up.
