brad mayHell Boy
My biggest dog,Hammer, got tagged by a cottonmouth the other day on his right front paw. Now he looks like hell boy from the movie.
Getting better by the hour it seems, but it had me worried for awhile.
Where we train is now loaded with them. Have seen three in the last two weeks.
Anyone had any luck desnaking their dog. Hammer wants to play with everything.

ravenri have trained a number of them using a live non-venimous snake and a shock collar.
bring the dog in to the snake from downwind
so he will associate the smell with the
shock of the collar.
about the time the dog has located the snake and is streaching out to smell it 3-6 feet
away,i hit the collar
and i hit them alittle harder than normal training settings.
move the snake to another location and
repeat about 20 mins later, but often times in my experience most dogs, you can't get within 20 feet of the snake after the first shock.
i've caught big bull snakes and used them, i'll tie them to fishing line on a fishing pole with a bolen knot, right behind the head so i can use the snake over again till the dog gets it.
good luck and safe travels

lavacaA number of years back, they had a group of folks that came to Houston every year and offered this service for a fee. Took my lab and had it done.
Thought it would be a good idea to give him a refresher course a couple of years later. When he saw/smelled the snake, he headed for the truck and they had to literally drag him into proximity of the snake to shock him. I'd say it works.
The only bad news is if he ever saw a snake out hunting, he was totally fritzed for the day.

brad mayThanks for the info. I'll give it a go. They are CC'd so it should work without any problems.
Going out tonight to check for gators in the back ponds. To hot to train right now in south Louisiana, but getting ready for the fall hunt tests and the season soon, and we have our own special problems down here.
