Broken Pelvis
My lab jumped out of the truck at 65mph and broke her pelvis in three places.

The vet told me that it can heal on its own in 6-8 weeks or we can have a 5k surgery that will hopefully work.

He also said the odds are 99% that she won't be able to have puppies down the road as the pelvis will not heal exactly like orignally was.

Has anyone had experience with this or advice?

I am keeping her on meds and she is doing quite well, eating, walking, popping, being spunky.

It makes me sad about the no puppy thing but that is not the end of the world either.

I wouldn't exactly think that being spunky is a good thing with a broken pelvis. Hopefully you just meant she is in good spirits.

And people wonder why I never let my dogs ride in the bed of the truck while not in a crate.

Yes, she is in good spirits and doing quite well considered.

Had dogs all my life and the first one that I have ever had an issue with.

Will definitely do things different in the future.

How the heck could she jump out of the truck at 65?

Dog sees squirrel. Dog jumps out of truck to get squirrel. Dog is lucky to be alive and only have a broken pelvis.

Dr. Dog, good question. I have a german shepherd and the lab that are both a year old. The shepherd is all over the place and the one that I actually figured would get hurt if it ever happened as she is into everything and the lab just wants to eat and have her belly rubbed. I cannot say for sure she jumped or if she fell but either way I am lucky she is alive and doing well. I am sad that her puppy having days are gone.

Have you considered a topper or crates for the dogs? Saves on vet bills and a lot of road rash on dogs.
