Boyken Spanials
Hey Guys

My son who is 36 years old lost his pal (dog) of 11 years last Monday. He lives alone in a townhouse. He was considering a yellow lab to replace his companion. He called me a couple hours ago asking if I had heard of a Boykin Spanial. I wanted to kick myself in the ass for not having thought of the breed for him. I have considered Boykins on several occasions. It is a perfect fit..compact, loyal, etc.. Anyone know of a good litter on the ground or coming up within a reasonable distance (6+/- hours) from northern Va.?

Thanks in advance

Pam Kadlec wrote the "book" on them and has the best knowledge on who (including her) has the best pups... and SC is w/in 6 hrs, right? If not there are some good breeders in NC also.

The don't shed, but do need grooming and we shave ours twice a summer. Hair comes out in clumps sometimes, not like normal dog hairs that get on everything... very tractable, but also VERY ez to spoil...and, a warning, they attract women like ants to honey.

A very sincere thanks to y'all! Great leads. I have passed them on to my son, Beau.

One of my buddies has two of them. Both field dogs but not great in the field. Cute little numbers though.

Not to be wet towel but most of the Boykens I've been around are very energetic and want company all the time. How will the breed do in a townhome with no company for most of the day?

"Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.
