German shorthaired pointer black
Not sure if this is ok here but if not just remove. I have a 10 week old AKC Black German Shorthair to hunting family only. He is out of hunting parents and is in Massachusetts someone had a deposit and passed so I will sell him for the $700.00 difference. He is a great dog lot of character.

Pictures will help you sell and would be interesting.

I've never seen a black GSP.

Good luck, the GSP's are great dogs beer

This is " ACE". Bumped into the owners while out walking my GSP last week. I wish I had his pedigree.

He looks good Rob. Did you hit up the owners to put him over your bitch?

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Doe's it cost too much to dock it? Sometime down the road the owner will have more vet bill's since the undock tail will experience tissue and bone damages due to wacking it out in the bush while hunting, that why the German dock the tail in the first place over a hundred years ago. Don't they dock Australian heeler's?

In Australia the docking of tails is banned.I must say I like them with the long tail.My girl is predominantly liver , but she has a lovely white tip to her tail.
The tails are docked when still pups, so there is no great cost involved.

You can get tails docked here but it has to be for a medical purpose.

So would happened if you docked the tail?

I assumed the dew claw's are allowed to be removed?

Is the British parliment still running the country of Australia? It's appear's to me, that anytime England pass a law or ban on firearms type or animal related stuff, Australia follow's the footsteps of the Queen, does New Zealand follow the footsteps too?

Just a fine I think Norseman. Thats if you can find a vet who will do it. Friend of mine had a long tailed boxer (they look wrong in my opinion) and the tail was broken by a horse. Its now a normal looking boxer Big Grin but as it had a medical reason for it it was ok.

It has been only a couple of years now that the AKC Association has given the color Black a passing grade as far as registration into the breed goes.

A friend of mine in Oklahoma has the only FC black male in the US as of last year. I dock all my GSP pups at 2 days old.

AKC does not know what they got themselves into since allowing black. They should make that long distance call to the fatherland and find out why and how they controlled the % of black offspring.

The short answer....black is dominant....if it becomes a fad, or if the color is popularized, it can quickly become a large % of a breed. German's don't allow the breeding of black to black because the "get" can be homozygous black and will produce ONLY black no matter what they are bred to. The Germans control the number of black dogs in the breed through breeding regulations...no black to black, performance requirements, and the number of times a stud dog can be used/yr. In the case the % of black pups is too high, they have the power to suspend or curtail the breeding of black (in the VDD the unofficial maximum is 20%). Except for the LM, the Euro breeds were all conceived as liver/white roan breeds.

The real problem with too many black dogs in the German registry is that it becomes more difficult to find good liver/liver-roan dogs, especially dogs that have made it through the breeding approval process. A black stud dog is less valuable and a black bitch even more so. To put in 2-3 years for the training, evaluations, testing, HD, blood work, OCD (newly required) temperament testing...and hopefully to see the dog really excel as a hunting dog....black is just not as useful an investment in the Euro systems...so it is naturally self limiting.

BUT...none of this matters in the US...you have no breeding restrictions in the AKC...any dog with a pedigree can be bred. Popular opinion decides what becomes of any breed in the US.

JonP I agree with your assement of the black dog in the breed. I myself have roan & liver, white & liver all out of NFC dogs in the GSP breed.
