Savage 12LRP vs. Savage BVSS
I'm considering getting one of the above rifles for long range shooting. Does anyone have any shooting experience with the Savage 12LRP in either 260 Rem. or 6.5 Creedmoor? My other consideration would be the Savage BVSS in 308 Winchester? Thanks for any input.

Although I have no input on the rifle choice, I do have experience with the calibers you ask about.

The .260 and the Creedmoor are ballistically similar and both blow away the .308 for long range work.

As far as the factory rifle you ask about, you'll never know what you get until you get it. Could be a dog, could be a star.

I advise having one put together by your favorite gunsmith with quality components guaranteed to shoot.

Thank you for the reply. I've been doing a good deal of research on cartridges and am leaning toward the 260 Rem., especially since Lapua is now making brass for this cartridge.

I had a Savage BVSS in 300WM. It WAS accurate, but not as accurate as I expected from a rifle of that size and weight. Having said that, if you had one you could always get it rebarrelled pretty easily I think.

Thanks for your input. Years ago I owned a heavy barreled SS Savage in 223 and it was a tack driver. I've read their 308 Palma rifles have been winning matches and generally hear that Savage barrels are extremely accurate.

Bill, my comment was only for the BVSS. I have a Savage 110FP in 223 that is extremely accurate. Yes, I also have heard about the accuracy of the Palma rifles, but they are not cheap!
I assume you have considered the 6.5x284?
Peter.

Pete:

I've decided that I will go with either the 260 Remington or the 6.5 Creedmoor. I've always liked the 6.5 cartridges and did look at the 6.5x284.
Yes, the price of Savage rifles have increased, especially the target style guns.
