hglassSako TRG-42
Any thoughts or opinions on the Sako 338 Lapua. I looked at the McMillan Tac 338 and the Surgeon Remedy. But they are double the cost of the Sako. I dont want to say 6 months down the road I should have bought???

BiebsNothing wrong with the Sako TRG-42. A very purpose-built machine, used by most of the SWAT and Sniper teams in Europe.

458WinThey are not bad if you don't have anything better

Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship

45-70 shooterSAKO make good EXPPENSIVE stuff. IMHO all the 338 sniper rifles have barrels that are too short unless you are really a sniper. A l-o-n-g three groove Nitrided barrel will be faster and last at least 3X as long. This rifle which is basically an F class Savage with a bigger bolt head and 36" 3 groove nitrided barrel in 338 RUM shoots 1/2 MOA and the scope cost a lot more than the rifle.
20 pounds as you see it. Strictly a "gong ringer" a long way across the sagebrush as IMHO, "long range hunting" is an old Sioux phrase for "too lazy to get off the ATV."
It was built by Scott Null up in Driggs ID.
Average 200 yard group

TRG 42, with a 5.5x22 night force. Shooting a 250 Barnes GMX. MV 2970. Shot was 420 yards if memory serves me right.
Double Rifles, This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as bolt rifle. An elegant weapon for a more civilized age.

Tyler KempIf the factory rig offers everything you want, then look no further. I believe the new ones have faster twist barrels for 300 grain bullets, but older ones were a bit too slow.
Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too!
Recent college grad, started a company called MK Machining where I'm developing a bullpup rifle chassis system.

If you are referring to the TRG, you are correct, the original ones came with 1:12 twists, the newer ones come with a 1:10, that bei g said, I have ran 300 pills through it with success.

CanuckI got a chance to shoot a TRG-42 at Saeed's house in September and was really impressed with it. Would love to try one at long range some day. Here are two groups I shot with it at 100yds. Saeed told me the load but all I can recall is that it was a 300gr bullet...

LOL...I admit I was a little nervous on the first shot (shooting my 470 under the tin roof of our outdoor gun range at home is bad enough!), but it turned out that it was not that bad at all. Saeed must have some very good sound absorption material from the entrance of that portal to about 30m out.
