WinkNikon D500
Nikon has announced a new APS-C sensor size camera, the D500. There were a lot of people very disappointed that Nikon never upgraded/renewed the D300, with it's professional build quality and high end performance levels. That has now been done, but the body alone is selling for around $2,000, so only the committed will want one.
Things like 10 frames per second, or ISO 51,000, or constant bluetooth connection with smart devices, or touch-screen/tilt-screen or a 100% 1X magnification veiwfinder are now all there.

larrysYou bet! I damn sure know I can not afford either, but new stuff happens all the time in the camera world. I believe lenses mean more than the camera.
I just don't speak Nikon. I prefer Pentax, but that is a personal choice. Love my K-3.

If any of you are tempted by the Nikon D500, know that the old UHS-I SD cards are not optimal on this camera. You will have to go to the new UHS-II standard, or your frames per second rate in shooting bursts (due to read/write speeds) will severely cripple the potential of the camera. This also means buying a new card reader which is rated UHS-II or your transfers to the computer will be slow as well. A USB 3 port on the computer would allow fast transfer speeds, but a USB 2 port will be very slow in comparison.
This camera has two card slots, one for the XQD card (only manufactured by Lexar and Sony) and one UHS-II SD slot. But the high speed potential is only as fast as the fastest card in the camera, which is for the most part the XQD card, previously only found on the Nikon D4 and foreseen on the soon to be released D5 and D500.
For those who do sports or fast action shooting it is probable that just using the XQD card, or programming the SD slot for overflow, will be the way to go.
The costs of the XQD cards and readers, as well as the UHS-II cards and readers, means that you will have to spend more than just the price of the camera body to come anywhere close to the camera's potential. The only two XQD cards capable of getting the maximum out of the camera are the Sony G XQD and the Lexar 2933x, and they aren't cheap.

A recent review of the D500, with a wildlife photography viewpoint.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...niM&feature=youtu.beThe review mentions that some users, who use the older Li-ion01 batteries (which most of the recent Nikon bodies use) aren't getting the longevity that the new Li-ion20 batteries give. In what must be a first for Nikon, they will replace all your old batteries free of charge if you buy a D500.

WinkI'm posting this link primarily because John Lawson's (and Thomas Redd's) bird pictures are pretty darn great.

WinkWith the initial offering frenzy now over, there is a very good price on a Nikon D500, with Nikkor 16-80mm, with the MB-D17 battery pack for around $2,400. This is a very good offer, if you're interested in the best APS-C sensor camera Nikon ever made.
