VemoWhat's a good tripod?
I need a versatile tripod for my spotting scope and cameras. Has anybody purchased a rugged, lightweight tripod? I am looking to spend $200-250.

crawfishI like SILK tripods. The 300PRO is around $150.00. I use it for my cameras. Canon 5D with a 70-200L USM IS is no problem

wsquaredI went sheep hunting this year( my first time) with two buddies who have been at it for many years. Both of them use Manfrotto tripods. The models they used were 718SHB and 718SB. They come as a package with a basic simple head, and have handled the rigors of sheep hunting for several years. They handle a 3-4 Lb spotting scope with no problem , rock solid.

Seconded! also, they have a "Fluid head" that moves very smoothly without the jerky starts and stops. Might not be necessary for still or a spotting scope, but is perfect for a video camera. A very good tripod. Got mine off of Amazon.com

Safari-HuntI have a Manfrotto it is a bit heavy duty but I'm sure you will find something lighter in their range.
That tripod has been everywhere, flying and spending a lot of time on the back of a bakkie on bad roads this tripod is rugged and extremely tough no matter what you trhow at it.

JrileyI have a Bogen/Manfrotto 3021 with a 3265 grip head. The grip head is awesome. The 3021 is pretty heavy duty though. But, it will stay put!

doccash3021N tripod w/ 3028 bogen head. All very stable but heavy. On a recent african safari I wished for a 400.00 carbon fiber one! If you are going to travel internationally I would recommend carbon fiber. Overweight charges on long flights w/ multiple connectors will more than pay for a carbon fiber tripod! Dr.C
