just wating for the postmann to bring me this sigma 120-300 f2,8 lens.
Hope this will be a good lens for hunting and wildlife on travel ,safaries and sports
Know it is heavey, but cost not so must as the canons lens.

Get well soon, I'd like to see the photos you take. I've already got the Nikkor AFS 28-300mm VR zoom and an old (but good) Nikkor 300mm AFS f/4 IF-ED, so I don't need another lens in that range.

Looks nice and sharp. Is that a spot on your low pass filter just above and to the left of the critter?

Think it is a water drop ore a refleks, noting on the filter.

A friend of mine has one and I borrowed it from him for a long week-end of shooting a club soccer tournament for Girl's Under 14.

It has a couple of issues that make it less than ideal for fast-moving sports - (1) the initial focusing is fairly slow, (2) it also didn't maintain focus while following the action very well especially is the action was moving toward you with some speed, and (3) it's heavier than I felt comfortable hand-holding.

The good news is the image quality (IQ) is fairly close to my Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 VR which is a very sharp lens. When I got my mono-pod out the problem was solved. I also noted the IQ increased quite a bit when stopped down to f8 to fi11.

Take a look at www.lensrental.com and read the reviews on many of the lenses they rent to the public -- I think you'll find the real-world remarks valuable.

If you Google "photography on safari" you;ll find lots of advice both as to equipment, but when to go and who is doing the best jobs.
One other thing - don't buy a tele-converter to increase the magnificaton

Follow up on my post. (1) My friend returned his lens for a refund. It developed focusing issues even beyond what I reported and actually started to back-focus

I just talked to another friend who has one for about 2 mnonths and he shoots kid's soccer on a Nikon D3s and he just raves about it - he likes it so much he sold both his 70-200 f2.8 VR II and his 200-400mm f4 -- he tells me his keeper rate is a high as it's ever been.

I wouldn't mind trying one out. I would compare it to my Nikkor AF-S 300mm f/4 of course, since it would be my only reference. But I suspect it wouldn't focus as quickly and one stop faster probably wouldn't make me want to spend more than I did on the prime lens since I doubt it would have better IQ.

First now I can give you my test shots from the sigma.
I got in April when i was figting the big C in the hospital .
Now at am started on my job again and for now won the fight again cancer an have the opportunity to test my sigma on handball .
This Pic´s is right out af the camera just put dovm in pixel.
3200 iso f2.8 1/320sek and it is Ok all the way i focus. Also try my canon 70-200 f 2,8 and the sigma was better and quiker for me on handball.

Glad to hear the better news on the medical front. It looks like your lens/camera combo focuses on the run very well, even in the relatively low light of a gym.

wink it works wery well can I say . no problem at all in the hall off ball.the 120mm on the near line is a littel to long on a crop 1,3 camera the lens will be super on a Fuld frame camera to handball but for wildlife the crop 1,3 ore the 1,6 will be super and the lens is fast in light and focus. the problems with back ore ront focus I do not have this on the lens.
