djpaintlesNot about hunting, Kids self portraits..................
Sorry this isn't about hunting but I thought was a fun photographic idea anyway. This Thanksgiving I let the kids take their own pictures. I mounted the camera on a tripod, hooked up a remote release and let them trip the shutter (I was aiming the camera). Here's a couple of them:
I was using my Cannon 50D and a buddies new 50mm f/1.2L that a buddy just got from Joel at Cameraland. Having the nice reveiw screen on my 50D is a real plus for the kids, they loved clicking a pic and then seeing it right then and there. Using the remote release and the tripod sure cut down on camera shake. If nothing else letting the kids take a few clicks themselves kept them interested in the regular pictures, but mostly we all just had fun!

Zoboomafoo_dudeGreat pics! That lens has been on my wish list for a LONG time. I've got the f1.4 and it has been a great portrait/low light lens.

The SpecialistFor nice portraits you want a short telephoto. Like a fixed 85 or 105mm.
So you can stay a reasonable distance from the subject while filling the frame and controlling depth of field, for the nice sharp face and soft focus on the background.
