Looking for a Digital to replace my film cameras (D70S)

It certainly piqued my interested after the macro picture from the Minolta Z6 was shown recently.

After reading some of the reviews I started searching for a camera with more positive owner comments.

That took me to a kit with the Nikon D-70S.

Anyone out there with experience with this camera. Body and two lenses listed for a "reasonable" price is tempting.
Relative close ups with standard lense is a POSITIVE though full macro may require a new lense.
Would like to hear any comments from folks with this camera kit.

Look at the D80 if you can afford it, or at a Canon Rebel XTi. These two are pretty close to each other in performance, but the XTi does not cost as much as the D80. Both are 10MP digital SLR cameras.

Have spent most of the evening tonight trying to compare D70S and D80.

ALL, well most all, of my film cameras are Canon, but I will sure look hard at the Nikon in digital.

I am not sure "I" will be able to note the difference in 6.1 and 10 megapixels for my shooting. Several folks at work have the D70 (original issue) and i am impressed with the photos they produce.

Money is not the real issue, BUT value is. I want the best photo for the dollars spent, without dollars/gear-weenie overkill.

Now I will go back and look a the Canon you suggested.

The D80 may be more solid and heavy than the XTi (D400), but both perform pretty close to each other. However, the XTi has an automatic sensor cleaner plus a software sensor cleaner. You must clean the sensor manually on the D80. Other than that, the XTi will cost around $300.00 less.

By the way, don't even look at those cheap online adds. Most will take your money. Look at the reputable dealers such as B&H Photo And Video or Adorama. I am certain that there are other dealers others can tell you about, but I have only purchased from B&H.

Canon digital rules!. I absolutly love my Canon Rebel XT. My walk around lens is the 28/135 IS. All my post or AR in the last year have been shot with this combo. As for detailed photos the trick is to shoot in RAW format. You won't beleave the results.

I think you said you have Cannon film cameras. If the lenses from film fit the digital, that would sell me. I have the D70,,,,also N70 and F5. The lenses go on all.

Unfortunately all of the Canon lenses are older (much older)and not likely a match for the new digitals.

Guess it is time to go modern or forget it all.

My old D1X is basically a 6meg camera, and a number of years old and with several firmware updates, etc.

My message is this. Every system seems to have several quality levels of lenses. I found that when I went from the $600 level to the $1500 level that my photographic image quality took a quantum leap.
