MurfBird Feeders
I have been making home made suet /seed feeders from the rendered down deer tallow the last couple of years. Just melt the tallow and pour in bird seed, stir to coat all the seeds and let harden. By tieing several knots in a string that is embedded in the suet block they can be tied on trees.
It is best to do this outdoors on a hot plate as the rendering process is rather smelly. They attract several species including wood peckers and flickers, finches and nut hatches. It gets them in close for photography.
A good use for a by product of deer hunting.

WillI'm too lazy to make my own suet cakes, but around here they attract red-bellied and downy woodpeckers, flickers, and chickadees.
They also attract starlings, which I try to nail with the pellet gun.

Shame on you Bill, pellet guns are not for elephant or buffalo hunters! I use my Ruger #1 460 Weatherby for these in the back yard.
I use 560 grain cast bullets.
