Flash
I seldom ( as in not in the three years I have owned the camera) take photos inside so imagine my surprise when I took some photos with my EOS XTi the other day and the on board flash was not enough.
So now I have to find a flash to provide enough light for simple in the same room kind of "snapshots".

Suggestions to fill this need would be appreciated.

You need a fast lens F1.4. Bump up the ISO.

Lets see some of the photos.

When you are using flash you must understand the inverse square law, which says that light will fall off much faster than the change in distance.

For example, if your light is properly exposing a subject at 5 feet and without doing anything else you move the subject to 10 feet, you have now doubled the distance but the light will have fallen in quantity by a factor of 4 (2 stops equals 4 times less light)

If you are getting good exposure on your subject but the rest of the photo is real dark, you need to drag the shutter to allow some ambient light to hit the sensor.

Good luck.

this camera ?

what lens?

Can you adjust the power of the flash?
that's got a pop up flash? They are usually quite powerful but are so close to the lens so they make everything a bit flat.
You want a remote flash anyway.

If taking "green box" flash shots the camera should optimize the settings such as iso shutter speed and aperture. If you are using custom modes as TV AV or Manual then you have to be smarter than the camera and actually know what to do. Dr.C
