DB BillNikon D500 Problems
For those of you who are considering Nikon's latest DX body check out this web-site
www.bythom.com Thom has his finger or everything Nikon and his observations objective.
It lists a series of problems with work-around solutions for some of them.
It seems like Nikon (ahd I'm a Nikon user) has rushed another new model to market before it was ready.
And some complex problems to boot, since they are hard to replicate. Ever been to the doctor but when you finally see him there are no more symptoms? I didn't jump in early on this camera and will wait until they get them sorted out before I do (if ever, since my existing cameras are already better than I am).
Most of the new things on this camera I don't need, like 10 frames per second, or wifi transfer of images, or touch screen commands, etc. And most of the bugs involve things that most people don't use, but the focusing system on this camera is something I would really like to have, once they get the camera sorted out.

DB BillSince my youngest grandchild will be going away to college this Fall I don't have any reason to buy a new camera for sports but the one feature I do like is the "flicker" control that allows the camera to avoid the problem caused by lighting in gyms which really screws up the lighting when shooting volleyball and basketball indoors.
I shot my outdoor sports using a D300 for late afternoon and switching to my D3s for it's high ISO advantage when the lights came on.
My other grand-daughter is on a soccer scholarship to an eastern college and if she would have gone to a school on the West Coast I was ready to switch to the Canon 7DII for it's added pixels and faster frame speed on a DX body - I'm going avoid the D5oo all together.
The glitches all seem to be electronic in nature. Firmware updates may solve them all, if not, they'll be a D500s coming out shortly. The good things about this camera don't seem to be in dispute, it's as good as it gets in a professional DX format camera.
I gave my D300s to my daughter and hope she likes it as much as I did.
