Wolverine
Our weather has been having vicious mood swings this winter (mucho snow,-30,high winds, and now driving rain) but we trapped this huge fellow a couple of days ago. He was pretty trapwise for a wolverine so we placed a Manning #9 on the trail leading into the set! Here's a couple of tanned hides for sale as well.

Very nice! I'd love to get a head to clean for my skull collection. Would you be able to sell one to me? Needs to have teeth...

Minnisota Trapline Supply,,there's a fellow or 2 on Tman who swear by them. They arrived today and I'm impressed! They won't be in the field until next season as it's about time to cut firewood and logs. Jim

Waterrat,

Great pics and thanks for sharing. I have a hunt/trapline trip booked in BC for next Feb.
I hope to take wolverine, lynx, wolves, marten, weasel and maybe a fisher. Can't wait!

I love the pic of the dog looking up at its master.

I have a rooster named Sasquatch. I call him Squatch for short. He has huge feet.

Did you get your weasel yet?
No rooster is a match for a hungary ermine or weasel.

No, the bloody thing moved on to probably killing other people's poultry. My dog probably gave it the hint to seek other hunting grounds.

I've got something coming your way... Wink

Yes indeed wolverines are very nice. I am getting a parka made out of wolverine skins, all harvested by my self. Wolverine is the best fur to have for fur trim, frost does not stick to the hairs unlike any other fur where they stick to the fur.

Too bad we can't tame the wolverine as guard critter, they look like they can handle most anything.

Friend of mine years ago outside Bozeman, MT was in the film industry and had a pet wolverine.....wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it! He'd grab it by it's feet and swing it around in the air! It'd just growl at him.
Me, I never touched it.

Waterrat, from what I have seen these wild weather swings seems to make wolverines move about more. A #9 Manning is not a bad choice as I have see them destroy a lot of traps , including 330 connibers !
Sterlings are another trap that I finally settled on that will hold them longer than a day
Good trapping and Be Safe

We had a good start for the season today!

A big male wolf got into a wolverine cubby,, as per Phil, he was caught in a 600 Sterling. We have barely enough snow to get around but we have a few early sets that are extremely productive until our main line gets usable.

A few hours in between pics!

Not a very impressive week on the line. This is all that remained of a wolf after his buddies devoured him,the snare wasn't even pulled very tight. 2 lynx in the same set.

Nice wolverine. Good thing you don't live in Montana. Some jerk judge just sided with the anti's and no more trapping wolverine in the state and hell, the quota was only 3 for the whole state. It's a sad world we live in when the powers listen to emotion and don't listen to science..... horse

After a 7 week hiatus due to rain, flooding,no snow, and a buggered leg we got back in the game. Picked a couple lynx on the 1st ck and this wolverine yesterday. There's 2 pair of wolves in the vicinity and hopefully we get into those as well. [IMG]http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/

With a lynx we use a loop on a pole and choke then down (takes about 30seconds for a cat), wolves and wolverines get a 22 long rifle through the lungs. Pretty quick and humane deaths compared how nature usually ends lives.

I still can't get my photobucket to work! We had rain, overflow, and bad ice for most of january & february here, it got cold in march and we put up 2 big wolverines and 14 more lynx! It's almost may and there's still 30" of ice in front of the house,,I don't understand this global warming deal we hear about. Spring bear on may 1st then on to Bristol Bay for the summer.
