larryshoresWhat are you using on the top of DP traps ?
I use a bunch of DP traps . At times, I catch a pile of coons and possums . I have caught over 600 in the last few years . I use a variety of different things for bait. At times , it is easy . At other times , they totally leave the traps alone .
I saw a TV show where they used some substance on the top rim of the traps to attract the coons . It seems like a fantastic idea. Unfortunately , I cannot remember what it was .
Does anyone use anything like this ? If so, what it is ?
Thanks !

Aspen Hill AdventuresLarry, some people swear by putting a golf ball on top. I've never tried that. Been getting a few last month on DP baited with dry cat food.

larryshoresI use dry cat food, marshmallows, peanuts or peanut butter. I set them all under protein feeders . I have not set them in months . Last Sunday I set several . I caught nothing.
There is some liquid I saw these people putting on the lip of the traps. I want to try it .

Hmm. Unknown what the substance can be. I am on a trapping forum on FB and will search it later.

roncoI've never used dog proof traps, just legholds when I was trapping.
I've watched North American Trapper and they have used this;
https://www.northamericantrapp...riant=40204151193689They put the coon buster in the DP and pour the magnet on top for attractant.

roncoGood, glad to hear that. Coons can multiply like rabbits and can carry rabies.

buckdeerFish oil and or crayfish oil on the lip of the trap and in a trail leading to the trap. You can get it f&t. Make sure to get the squirter lid also.

larryshoresI have lost count. I set them over the weekend. I have caught about 15 coons and possums using this bait.
The actual bait is a f'ing mess. After dipping some out with my hand, I am rubbing my hand on the top of the trap. I am leaving a lot of liquid on the top rim of the trap.
There is also a liquid scent. I am squirting some inside the trap.
I baited about 20 traps with one jar of the bait.
It has been very interesting. The coons and possums had largely stopped hitting what I had used in the past. Peanuts, dried cat food, marshmallows, corn, scratch feed, etc. They are hitting this stuff a hell of a lot more.

tomahawkerAnything novel and sweet. I like grape jelly in a squeeze bottle. I’ll mix it with antifreeze in the winter.
