chilcotin hillbillywolves a plenty
I have really neglected trapping this winter as I was so busy with cat hunting. The past few weeks I have got out there and started up again.
In my area you can snare during regular trapping season and foothold trap on private land year around.
With spring break here my daughter came along to help out on a big day.

Paul TruccoloVery well done to your daughter and yourself and thanks for posting these impressive pictures.
Do you sell the skins ?
Decades ago we had quite a lucrative market for Red fox skins here in Aus and everyone that could shoot a rifle chased them for spare cash.
These days they are worthless ($10/scalp) and no-one bothers much anymore and now we have an explosion of foxes (introduced), as well as feral cats, decimating our indigenous wild-life and birdlife.
Wow, great pictures. Thanks for sharing.

AtkinsonI wish Idaho would wake up and allow trapping of wolves without a limit..Wolves, like coyotes have litters, an no natural enemies...BTW, Idaho is just discovering what many of us have always known, Wolves will kill and eat Mt. Lions. They run in packs and a single Lion is no match for the pack, they catch them in the sage brush...The Fish and Game is doing some study on this as we speak..They are real good at studies, and wasting money on the obvious.

Ray you are right about the mtn lions. If the wolves don't kill them they often starve them out by stealing their kills.

Lamarthey also push them in closer to town.
we have a couple of Mtn. Lions that live right on the edge of town that are seen fairly frequently.
never had that before, but we have also been seeing more wolves out where the Lions used to hang out.
I never put the two things happening about the same time together.

Kolo-PanHow was each wolf taken. Trail sets with snares, or trail sets with traps, or cubbies, or dirt hole sets. Or what? What type of foothold trap do you use.

these wolves were taken with snares on likely trails coming into a bait. Nearest snare was 30 yards away from the bait. When trapping I use the Bridger Brawn #9 it is strong enough to break through some crust on the snow. I haven't had a wolf pull out of one yet. I used to use the MB 750 which do work but not near as effective and don't catch quite as deep.
