Rick RI've got the Marlin 1894 Cowboy with the octagon barrel. The standard model is probably the better buy, but I luv that rifle.

N E 450 No2I have owned a Marlin, and currently own a Winchester Trapper 44 Mag.
Both are good rifles.

Rusty Marlindepends on what you want to do with it.
If you're just gonna shoot it once in a while then any of them will work. If you're going to shoot Cowboy Action get a Marlin.
There's reason you don't see any win 94's on the line at a cowboy shoot.

My 1894SS will be here today, and I am either going with the Leupold VXII 1-4 or 2-7. I CAN HARDLY WAIT!!!!!

Allan DeGrootI was going to say if you want a pure hunting rifle
(like the new rules in Indiana) I'd be inclined to get a
marlin 1894 in Stainless steel.
For CAS? a Marlin 1894 Cowboy.
As a multi-use plinker, hunter, etc? a Marlin 1894
Can you tell I'm a marlin fan?

That's just what I decided on several days ago, but they were VERY difficult to find...
Guys I just outfitted 2 of these for me and my son....The rifles handle and balance superbly and comes up to the eye in a second...
For me and my son this scout style set-up was THE CHOICE...

They shoot all my bullets into one huge ragged hole all day long...
I can taste them big hogs already...

Thank you for all your responses and suggestions...
