Bad Ass WallaceLightning rifles - are they popular
Seems to be a number of manufacturers making clones of the Colt Lightning, Uberti, Beretta, US Arms and Pedersoli to name a few.
Because of a physical difficulty working Winchester levers I thought I might purchase a Pedersoli as this company is the only maker of traditional calibre 44/40.
Any users have any advice about these pump actions

theback40I shot the Uberti ( I think ) in 45 long colt. Very nice, quality seemed good, feed and function was good. Seemed a bit heavy, but I expect I had it in my head is was going to be a more petite rifle then it is.

buckeyeshooterI have never shot one. However, I have seen them used a cowboy action shoots. The common opinion is that for that use, they must be sent to cowboy gunsmith Lassiter for an action job to keep them from being a jam-o-matic. Probably, they would be ok for a casual shooter. But not for competition out of the box. A friend who owns 3, a pair in 44-40 says the Pedrosolli is the only one he likes as far as being dependable. He would know as he researched all brands and test shot them before buying.

boom stickI would give my left something to have a large frame original in 45-70. I would like to see a featherweight version short barrel in 45 Colt produced. Sort off a Mares Lightning.

ArminiusI may be quicker than the typical LA, but to load with the action open is a PITA!
And mine is VERY finicky about cycling speed!
( U.S.F.A. with less than 100 rounds through it yet )
But even with octagon barrel it´s a HANDY sweetheart against an octagon bbled Henry / 73!

GanyanaHave an original (c 1894) and it runs like a dream...I prefer it to my win '92 (also 1894 vintage)- neighter are anything to boast about in the accuracy department.

dpcdI have shot one a friend owns; they are fragile and prone to jams. Each one seems to be unique as far as that goes. Try one if you really want to but I am sticking to levers. Yes, I would like to have a big frame one if anyone made them.

JeffMGreat info. I wanted one of the new ones to compliment my original. I have a very early model in 32-20. With cast loads my daughter, when 8 or so, used it to take some hogs. I've shot originals in most calibers including 45-60 and they were a great. The new ones don't have the smooth lines, excepting perhaps the Pedersoli. BTW, my 32-20 is a tack driver. Poor photo attached but it's a family heirloom that still shoots.
