Apparently the .50 Alaskan is the lever-action compatible .50-caliber cartridge for which Hodgdon's has available [pressure] reloading data, and for which factory brass is also available.

If I supply the rifle, what are the costs to convert the following rifles to .50 Alaskan. Please identify gunsmiths who are competent to do the job.
1. Marlin stainless steel Guide Gun now in .45-70?

2. Winchester (Miroku) M1886 now in 45-70?

3. Winchester M1886 now in 45-70?

conversion runs around $1000.00 if the barrel is rebored. If you want a new barrel it runs another $500 or so.
I had a Marlin Cowboy rebarrelled in 50 alaskan with a heavy 26" octogon. Turnbull restoration did my work. I am very happy with the gun.

send one of those 86's to Turnbull and have a 50-110 made from it, or one of his 475's. Prices are on his site, not real cheap, but his work is flawless.

I think Ben Forkin and Mic McPhearson will do a 50 Ak on a Marlin.

Starline has brass for both.

You've raised two questions:
1. Is there pressure tested handloading data for .50-100? I found none on Hodgdon's web site, and I have not been able to locate pressure data elsewhere.

2. I understand that converting the Marlin M1895 is irreversible because the receiver is altered [substantially??]. Were I to have one of the M1886s converted, is this reversible -- that is, does receiver remain intact while parts are altered or swapped out?

I am in no way any type of gunsmith. However, My understanding is that part of the reciever is removed to allow the round to feed from the tube to the chamber on either manufactred rifle. The area is under the barrel and over the mag tube. Also, the carrier is modified and the bolt face opened. On the marlin, the ejection port is also lengthened. There is also some feed rail work done on either manufacture. I can't tell you if the work could be reversed. But I have seen takedowns adverstised that have a 50 caliber and 45 caliber interchangeable front ends.
can't tell you about loading a 50-110-- don't have one.
