I have a M1894S in .44mag and it has the ballard rifling that I bought new in '98. I have read so much about the rifles with micro-groove rifling and wondered which ones had the ballard and which ones had the micro-groove. I have a older Marlin 336 in 30/30 that has the micro-groove and had thought when I bought my 1894S that maybe they had quit making the rifles with micro-groove. BM
