I think the best thing for you to do would be to get one of each... recently picked up one in 44 mag for $299, and it tosses Rem white box 180 grain HP's so nicely. I swear they might be beating 30-30's at the muzzle! Recoil is just enough to let me know it's a real gun. It is now my #1 hunting gun (and it wears a peep sight, huge bonus)

The fact that you already are set up for .357's and how cheap you can get .38's and .357's from the factory might be the deciding factor if money is important.
