Re: 45/70 400 grain
This might be a bit off topic, but, I had 2 boxes of the Buffalo Bore 350's. They were pretty stout recoil wise, and a couple of times I noticed the lever, (Marlin 1895) was starting to open at the shot.

I don't know what Tim advertizes pressure wise, but I was uncomfortable shooting them. I didn't have any problems with the 430, (I think they are 430 grains...) grain hard cast loads...

Hodgdon # 27 shows the same conponents except 50.5 grs. H-4198 giving just over 2000 fps. in a 22" bbl. so this looks pretty sound to me.

Kutenay-All of Hodgdons #27 loads for the 45-70 lever action are in a 24" barrel with Winchester brass and CCI 200 primers. All the other(45-70) brass is smaller in capacity there fore expect more pressure with less capacity and the same load.

I also use the 405 grain Kodiak bullet and my choice is H-322 over H-4198 for this bullet.I think you will find H-322 will give you slightly more velocity with less pressure. This URL is "Only an example" from Wild west guns.
