Marlin Help
I recently picked up a Marlin 336 Carbine in 30-30,it is a strait stock 336 with an 18.5 Barrell. Took it to my dads to shoot it started at 50yds with iron sights I sat the ramp in the sight all the way in the bottom thinking i would be low and then move up the ramp as i needed, well it is shooting about 16 inches high
with 160 grain hornadys levrevs, and 13 high with corelock 170s, windage is dead on just high
dont want to get rid of the rifle but it sucks
because i cant go any lower with the sights
any help i would greatly appreciate.

Wow, that's way off . It looks like you need a taller front sight.

it would seem so do you think an xs ghost ring
set up is worth trying? the crown on the rifle
looks good and as far as I believe the sights
that are on it came on it from the factory.

Are you SURE the sights it came with are original or have not been tampered with? Also you could remove the bolt and check them by bore sighting. It's hard to believe Marlin would have let a rifle leave the factory shooting 16" high at 50 yards.

Dear Para1977:

Take a look at the two set screws on the left hand side of the receiver, where a peep sight might have been mounted. You may see tell tale marks where the peep was mounted around those screws.

If it had a peep sight at one point, then the front sight probably was exchanged for a taller one to accomodate the higher aperture of the peep sight.

You can order an original front bead sight cheaply from Brownells for the Marlin 336. Probably a $15.00 fix.

Sincerely,

Chris Bemis

Or for a little more you could get a nice aperture sight. I like the Williams foolproof, but the XS ones are nice too and probably more rugged.

Yale, I checked the screws and they appear to
have never been turned or removed, as for the factory sights, i found one exactly like mine
on Gun Broker it has the same sights that mine has. i will order a 30 Cal laser sighter and see
if the sights were the wrong ones from the factory. I just cant believe it shoots this far
off. THANKS TO ALL FOR THE HELP!

not to over state the obvious but how much blade are you seeing in the "v" when you aim..is the blade even with the top of the v or do you just see the top of it in the bottom of the V
