This is all Mile Brady of North Fork bullets fault.
He did a BAD thing, VERY BAD thing.
He let me shoot his 405 at the range, then take it prairie dog hunting.
I really liked it.
I knew my local gunstore had a 405 Takedown in 405. I called them from WY and had them hold it for me.
I picked it up today before I even got home.
It is the Limited Edition Takedown in 405 WCF.
It has the color cased reciever. The trigger is great. The action functions liked greased glass.
The 1895 handles like a dream.
Even my wife likes it.
I always thought the 1886/Model 71's were the best lever guns. I stand corrected. The 1895 is the HOLY GRAIL of Lever guns.
Again Mike it is all your fault.

Thanks.

Mighty JoeGood show Tony! Another convert. You will be impressed with that rifle hunting bears. With North Fork bullets it will fantastic on bears and you will be the classiest guy in the woods. Well, not that your not already. hehehe
Prayer, planning, preperation, perseverence, proper procedure, and positive attitude, positively prevents poor performance.

Is there a chance that you and "A" would want to hunt bear again in Idaho with ELK CITY Adventures?
It would be a blast to be in camp with both of you at the same time.
Are ya'll comming to DSC next Jan?

Did you buy it at the Sportsman's Warehouse in San Antonio? The one they had finally disappeared.

No, I bought it at Rays Hardware in Dallas.
However they do have several at Collectors in Houston.
I cannot believe how smooth the action is and how sweet the trigger is. Where has the 1895 been all my life?
All the stories I have read about the 1895 in 405 being ungainly and akward to handle, and the recoil being painful, have been greatly exagurated [out and out lies actually].
It is the sweetest lever rifle I have ever shot.

mr rigbyTheodore Roosevelt liked it very much, as he used it extensively on his African Safari in 1909-1910 . it was his lion gun .

Well, I must get my hands on one the next time I'm back home and see how it handles. To my eye, it's about the ugliest lever gun ever, but -- as with women -- function trumps beauty.

NFMikeAnd it's curiously fascinating how it manages to put a 3" wide hole in a 2" wide p-dog.

Until I handled and shot NFMikes, like you I thought it was the ugly duckling of the lever world.
I WAS WRONG.
I now think it is the best of ALL lever rifles.
And it is hard on a prairie dog for sure.
