Choosing Base/Ring set for 1894 in 357
Looking at low Talley or Warne weaver style low rings for a 4x33 scope...and undecided on 1 or 2 piece base (Warne STEEL), and if the weaver one piece is as good as any?

Steel vs Aluminum, any reason not to use a 2 piece?

Wanting sleek rock solid mounting, w/o marring scope tube.

Get a 2 piece steel set of bases. Aluminum is crap, and you don't need the added stabilty or weight on such a rifle. I use Leupolds on all my levers that wear scopes. Most of my levers have peep sights however, as I can hit just as well as with the scopes, and it reduces weight, and is a heck of a lot handier which is what a lever was made for anyway. But, that's just me. Good shootin!

Went with Talleys and Leupy 2.5 fx-2, so it's still not 'over scoped' and the steel mounts are ROCK solid so they are not going anywhere.

Thanks.

Sweet. Same scope on my Guide gun. Good choice.

I use the weaver 1 piece on my 1894 (44 mag). I agree that steel is more recoil proof and durable. However, in a 357 or 44 there is little or no recoil, so it is overkill.
