Lordy, what I saw today
I was in our local gun store today and noticed a ment win 71, upon inspection it turns out to be a win mod 71 knock off in fancy grade by pedersoli with beautiful wood and blue, and in 45-70 as opposed to the .348 Win, price was $1600 and said he would trade even for my long tang winchester 71 348..I think that would be a decent deal, but can't bring myself to do it..My guns a good 80 to 85% ?????????

Your Winchester will always be worth more in my book and I like Pedrosoli's.

Why settle for a knock-off when you have the real McCoy!

Repl to questions is caliber, the knock off is a 45-70 and will chamber to 45-90 or the Alaskan big bores?? for next to nothing..Seems reasonable to me., but the question is do I want to do this, probably not but someone might be interested.

I will eventually own one of the Pedersoli 71's in .45-70. But I'll own it and an original 71 in .348.

I think it was smart of Pedersoli to do a 71 in 45/70. Not many people are willing to dive into the .348 hole. I'm stockpiling stuff for mine and I don't own the rifle yet.

I feel like I need one of the 80's Browning versions as well Big Grin

Brass continues to be available at ET brass, i just ordered 200 starline 45-70s and the same in 348 Win. They also have 405 gr REm factory bullets and I ordered several hundred of them...The 348s are almost non existent in jacketed bullets..I found 200 Hornady 200 RN, and not much of a 200 gr. fan in the 348, prefer 220 250 and 270s..

I bought 4 boxes of Barnes 348 250 gr. bullets, some 350 Swifts and still buying but getting there..and I have a pound of RL-17 and 19..

Forgot to mention my 348 is the super grade, but the forend may be a replacement stock, the butt is beautiful, I may be able to match the forend a bit better if I ever get around to it...Its not bad but could be better..

Keep the Long Tang and buy the 45-70 if you really want it. $1600 is a decent price now days but you might be able to Jew him down a bit with cash.
