I have an original 71 that was custom built as a copy of an 1886 50-110. Thirty-inch octagon barrel and full magazine. My local guy did it.

Here's mine. Wild West subbed out the rebore and took 13 months to do what they promised in 2. I admit the WW's trigger kit is excellent though, and this gun has one of the best triggers of any of my guns except a target air rifle. Otherwise, the gun has a DRC lever, cowboy action spring kit, and I polished and throughly deburred the internals to where I can cycle it with 1 finger with the hammer down. I was going to get it np3ed, but don't see the need. It weighs just over 6.6 lb empty and is a handful.

In the picture it has a barrel band front sight I salvaged from another gun that I'm still filing down to the right height and then I have a NECG one I'll make into a permanent replacement. I also replaced the hammer block safety with a flat pin.

i'd rather not say because the workmanship was unsatisfactory. the last thing i would want is someone else to have to deal with that bunch of butchers. i will say that Midwest Gun Works and a tool and die maker hunting buddy fixed all the flaws and it works and looks like a champ now. if i would do another conversion it would be Turnbull all the way. P.M. for more info if you want.

Thanks, Admiral.

I know Doug and his company's work. tu2

Have not seen Midwest Work in person, glad it got fixed for you.

My project is a Browning 71--
considering having a TD setup with more than one front end.

I think you mean Nonneman. He re-barreled my Ruger #1 45-70 and did a fine job.

I am seriously considering having my Marlin 1895 STBL chambered in 50 AK.

Is there any other work besides a reboring and rechambering (feeding issues to be addressed or opening up the ejection port)?

What for powder and charge. And what´s with the chamber pressure?
In Germany are many, many discussions about the great "Mystic". Lever action rifles and the max. chamber pressure.
Some "experts"are meaning, the only "best" round is the .450Marlin, made for modern pressure levels. "The .45-70, the lever killer No.1!" "Every .45-70 and same others, loaded over the CIP limit, will blow your gun!" Roll Eyes

Over 6100 ft.lbs from an leveraction rifle? With an old black powder round, like the .50/110? Confused I can´t believe it. Wink

Safarikid,
that is one cool rifle. i stop at 1900 fps with 475gr. bullets in my Browning. the cresent butt isn't very forgiving of recoil.

Thanks Admiral...and Big Bore Fan...I know its hard to believe, but thats what my lil Chrony Chronograph read out to me.It was always close with my other Big bores..That was about 5 years back and the memory of the loads and the rifle are long gone..had to go Bigger! I also have loads of a mild 1900,same bullet. I wish I could remember the other gents name that guided me on that then..he also was pushing 2300...The lever would even open on occasion...I only shot a few rounds that hot,but I dont remember any extraction/ejection problems. It is Easy to break 2100 with it..You call it a old black poder cartridge,it is,but with modern powders and brass and new actions, not a problem.I wish I still had that rifle!458Lott ballistics with a bigger hole and more energy! tu2
PS.I also had 4 BFR SS Revlvers converted to 50/110 from 2 3/4" to 10"! I finished a Brownie off in Alaska 3 years back with the 5"...Put him right to sleep! Eeker
