450 Marlin in BLR
I was wondering if anyone with a new BLR was reloading this round hotter than factory speed? I use a guide gun in bear country but would like the clip on the blr. Just curious if it can be sped up with 400gr Barnes etc? I am having trouble finding good penetrators up here for the 45/70. Barnes are available.

The 450 Marlin can be loaded in the BLR to the level of a 45-70 in a Ruger #1. That would yield about 2100 fps with a 400 grain bullet from a 24" barrel. The 450 Marlin is very similar to the .458"x2" American.

I have seen several BLR's that started out as a magnum version and were rebarreled in .458WM. To my mind, a much better option than a 450 Marlin in bear land!

Buckeyeshooter, do you know any of the gunsmiths
that did this conversion, or their address or
website? This would make a good African, dangerous game rifle if the buttstock & your
shoulder can take it.
