38/55 have you ever ?
I have heard about a replacement bbl for model 94's and marlin 336's that will convert standard 30/30 to 38/55. I would like info on where to get the bbl. If i ncould have what I want it would be an octagon bbl, 26 inches in length, Thanks

I waited a few days to see if any knowledgeable types responded to you. Not reading any posts, I'll throw in my two cents and say that it seem to me that attempting such a changeover would be physically impossible. Why not look for a Win.92? (which I believe was chambered even that late for the 38-55) Just my thoughts.

I've got a 1970's vintage 94 Winchester I'm converting to .38-55. I got a 26" octagon barrel from Numrich (GPC) and a new magazine tube, forend and cap to match. Still a work in progress fitting the forend and such. I expect a few feeding problems and may need to open up the guide rails a touch for the fatter round. I did need to adjust the headspace some to get it to line up just right and now it is near minimum. Because this reciever was one of the kind that turn purple when reblued, I had it hard chromed instead. Makes it look kind of antique. I didn't get it completed before I had to move for a new job and am still between houses at the moment. With a bit of luck my other house will sell and I can move out of this apartment and into a real house again and finish the job after hunting season.

The 30-30 is a necked down 38-55.

Yes it is and the rim goes through just fine but the nose binds up. It's just one of the things that still need doing to get it right.

The 30-30 is a necked-down 38-55 so the rim is just right and feeding is not a problem. It's a straight-forward conversion.

I recently did one. You can check it out here. I haven't gotten around to a permanent magazine installation, but a duct tape temporary indicates that feeding isn't a problem, as long as bullets aren't seated out.

Unless you want a 38-55 for some special reason, why not consider a 94 BB in 375 ? The 375 BB is essentially a souped up 38-55. They are quite inexpensive and later models even had angle eject so you can mount a scope if you want to.

Green mountain offer Winchester replacement barrels in 38/55. The round is longer than 30/30 or 375BB and it can't be had on a Win 92?

The 38-55 case is actually longer than the 375 by .065" as I remember but the COL is actually a little shorter. The bore diameter of the 38-55 is .377 and the 375 is oddly enough.375.
The last Win 375 I saw for sale had gotten real pricey and that was before the current inflation. I got a barrel from Gun Parts years ago and just waited for a project to put it on. I have a couple old 32Specials I can't give away in this part of the world. I'm going to change one.
The stock win 94 is not strong enough to change to a 375 Win but it should hold a 38-55.

Well I took the easy way. I had two 38-55's . . .
Commemoratives. The thin 24" barrels were the best balenced rifles ever, for me. The same length with the octagonal barrel just wasn't in it. A 26" one would be real front heavy.
