Heads up on old Savage 99s
I just recently purchased an old Savage 1899 or an E model not sure as I have not checked the serial number but its an oldy with a straight grip, 22 inch barrel and simi cresent butt plate and I'm sure its a 1x14 inch twist..

I have always told folks to check these guns out with heavy bullets as some will shoot them, some will not, but its not written in stone as some profess..

At any rate the amazing old gun in about 80% overall condition, has been drilled and tapped, so got a good price on it, shot 10 3 shot groups,, all different loads and bullet weights, 75 gr. to 120 gr. bullets..The 10 groups all shot 3/4" to a max of 1.1 inches, and this little gem shot them all to the same exact POI.

I shot the 117 gr. Hornady RN, 120 Speer, 100 gr. bal. tip, 100 gr. speer BTSP, 85 gr. GSC, 87 gr. Horn; 90 gr. HOrn., 85 gr. Nosler bal tip; 75 gr. Speer (box not marked but pretty sure); and the 100 gr. Noslers.

I bought it as I could make a few hundred bucks on it, but needless to say this one will be a keeper and my go to saddle gun.

Always try these 1x14 twist Savages, many of them are tack drivers and handle all bullets. I have always professed that a good barrel usually handles most bullets.

Serial number says its a 99E, 1931 or 1932 model...

Cross my heart Tony, I'm going to keep this one, but if I do sell it one day I will confess to you and admit to my weakness! I hope I don't, I have let so many nice guns go over the years it makes me sick!! Why couldn't I have been a Heroin Junkie or coke freak, it would have been so much easier!! cuckoo
